LA BMW 328 Superleggera vinse la Mille Miglia del 1940 con i piloti Fritz “Huschke” von Hanstein e Walter Bäumer che coprirono la distanza in 8 ore e 54 minuti alla velocità media di 167 km/h-104 mph. La ditta Superleggera Touring, carrozzieri in Milano -ancora oggi operativa- realizzarono la carrozzeria su disegno della casa bavarese. La corsa si svolse su un tracciato triangolare (Brescia-Cremona-Curtatone (MN)) da percorrere nove volte, chiuso al traffico, dopo che negli anni precedenti vi furono incidenti con molte vittime tra il pubblico.

The Superleggera Touring company, body builders in Milan - still operational today - built the bodywork based on a design by the Bavarian house. The race took place on a triangular track (Brescia-Cremona-Curtatone (MN)) to be covered nine times, closed to traffic, after in previous years there were accidents with many victims among the public.
